Where IS Graceland, Anyway?: College Visits and the IMSA Student

BY KATIE FUNDERBURG

Maybe it was just me feeling overly confident after spending three years living in the high school-college hybrid community that is IMSA, but just a few minutes into my tour of Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN) back in August, I was basically ready to leave.

When I Was Your Age... Music Wasn't Dead

BY GARY SHENG

When hearing songs like the bawdy “Reverse Cowgirl” by T-Pain or any dreadful Soulja Boy song ever released, I can’t help but assent with critics who vehemently chastise today’s popular music industry. Songs like these tarnish the face of our generation's music culture, but, even still, whether the state of music in America is degenerating or not is still a difficult call to make.

Sophomore Year: It's a Wrap

BY ADITYA KARAN

June or July, depending on the orientation day, began the slow transition into IMSA. Here the sophomores met about half their class and a handful of upperclassmen as they began their gradual adjustment to IMSA life. Then August 13th passed, and sophomore year had officially begun.  With Day of Service, plenty of mixers, and, the most redundant activity, icebreakers, the first few days were always something different. During this time sophomores were introduced to two “classes” that, for many, became an annoyance later on in the year, Navigation and LEAD.

A Suggestion Regarding IMSA's Budget

BY IRINA ONOPRIENKO

We all know that IMSA's been having budget problems lately. The alarming thing, however, is that if you ask around, a startlingly large number of people will have no idea exactly what's going on. I don't claim to be one of the few that do, but I do have an opinion on the subject—something that many people seem to lack. Everyone knows the budget has issues, but most people don't have any idea what to do about it. Here are a few of my thoughts on the subject.

Jerking--The Rise (and Fall)

BY KEVIN SHI

Ah, yes, the fever that had so fervently consumed a nation is finally beginning to be sweated off. The once abundant symptoms of wild and uncontrollable bodily movement, horrendous, incomprehensible music, and skintight skinny jeans can hardly be found in patients once worthy of emergency room attention.

Summer Movie Preview

BY SAURIN SHAH

Now that the cold winter has passed and the days have been getting longer, everyone is starting to enjoy the good weather. Hollywood, however, has in its infinite wisdom decided to release a litany of big-budget blockbusters to steal the day from us. From the requisite sequels well-represented by Iron Man 2, Shrek Forever After, Twilight Eclipse and Toy Story 3 to film adaptations of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time with a couple of original ideas peppered in, this summer seems just as exciting as the many before it when it comes to film offerings for the next few months.

Where Am I Going to Live?

BY MICHAEL ATTEN

Every year around the middle of April, the question everyone asks is, “Who are you rooming with next year?”  That’s right. It was housing time again and with it came the stresses of finding a roommate and picking a place to live for the next year.

Don't Trash IMSA Pond

BY JASON CHIEN

Campus Clean-up Day brought together thirty-four IMSA students, including me, who shared a common belief:  “… to act as good stewards of the environment.”  Volunteers were split up into groups of two or three, and then given a cleaning assignment.  When the list of cleaning sites was announced, only one area stood out the most.  Every volunteer moaned, groaned, or laughed when the pond behind 1505 was named.  These responses highlight the problem of trash around IMSA’s pond.
